The Kohala Coast is on the leeward side of the Big Island and is blessed with a scant 10 inches of rainfall annually. That leaves most days here sun drenched and cooled by the breezes of Anaeho'omalu Bay. It is a place of contrasts, black lands, green golf courses, blue ocean, rich yellow sandy beaches, tall verdant trees and vibrating tropical flora.
The great King Kamehameha I was born along this coast and tales of the favored status of this stretch of the island are legend.
Often called the Gold Coast in reference to the many luxury hotels here, the Kohala Coast has evolved into the premier resort location on the island. Those who know Hawaii best understand the Big Island is what is best about Hawaii. Kohala is the jewel of the island.
